Good afternoon everyone. Today I am going to discuss making tattoo balm.
My brother is an excellent tattoo artist in Jonestown, Pennsylvania. His shop is called At Gunpoint Tattoos. Feel free to check out his work on his Facebook Page (At Gunpoint Tattoos). He is very talented. OK, enough gushing about Paul, 😀.
So, I started to wonder, can I make a tattoo balm for him, his shop and his customers. After a lot of research I chose a recipe and tweaked it to make it my own (I never ever follow a recipe to the "T", it's always with my own twist). The ingredients and recipe below is what I settled on, it can always be revised to make it your own. Also, a note of point, I had to learn how to infuse oils with this recipe. I had never done that before and there are multiple ways to do it. More about that later.
Ingredients:
70 grams of Sunflower oil infused with calendula
15 grams of Grapeseed oil infused with chamomile
20 grams of Shea butter
30 grams of Beeswax
3 grams of Rose Hip Seed oil
2 grams of Olive oil infused with St John's Wort
5 drops of Lavender essential oil
5 drops of Helichrysum essential oil
Instructions:
Before actually starting on the recipe, infuse your oils with the healing herbs. I learned there were a number of different ways you could accomplish this. The one that worked best for me was using a crockpot method. Now, you can infuse directly in the crockpot; however, you can also infuse inside the mason jars sitting in the crockpot. Using this method I was able perform all 3 infusions at one time without making a ton of things dirty (saving on clean up time too, see....always thinking ahead).
Stir together the infused sunflower oil, infused grapeseed oil, infused olive oil, beeswax and the shea butter in a double boiler over medium heat. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. Add the rose hip seed oil and the essential oils. Mix well and pour into your containers and let sit until set.
I sent some to my brother to try it out and see how well it works. It doesn't have a very potent smell which is great because some people have an aversion to that anyway.
I will add that last week, Scott had a rash on his neck and I fell and did a number on my knee. We both put some of this balm on the bruises and they healed up very quickly. So, it is a multi-faceted balm. Scott is going to try it on a bug bite next (he is a mosquito magnet).
Here are some pictures of the finished product. I am willing to send .05 oz containers of it for $8.00 (including shipping). Message me if you are interested in trying this balm.

The average tattoo can heal anywhere between 1 to 2 weeks, but this tattoo balm that was made by Georganna healed my tattoo in 6 days. It also left my skin super soft wherever it was applied. The light fragrance is great for people who have sensitivity to those types of things. I am super excited to have this available in our tattoo shop here in Jonestown. Thank you Georganna for taking the time and making such a wonderful balm, I look forward to trying more of your products.
